Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 15:13 (NIV)
Are you willing to save at least one person in Ukraine?
The war in Ukraine
As a church, we cannot sit idly by - we have chosen to serve refugees ...
The war affected Poltava as well. More than 1 million refugees have been evacuated through our city. More than 100,000 refugees have settled in Poltava. Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs. Thousands of people need humanitarian aid…
What the Salvation church has been doing during the war:
Schools
  • Visited 6 schools
  • Presented gifts to children. Distributed food bags.
  • Shared about Christ
Children
  • Distributed 700 gifts.
  • Told children about Jesus with big joy.
Humanitarian aid
  • 240 tons of humanitarian aid were distributed in Kharkiv / Sumy / Kyiv / Poltava oblasts (regions)
  • 60-70% of the humanitarian aid, which comes exclusively to the Salvation church, was delivered to Kharkiv / Sumy / Kyiv / Poltava oblasts (regions)
Military

Feeding refugees
  • About 2,500 refugees have been fed at the railway stations (tea, coffee, sandwiches);
  • We have fed about 2,000 refugees who stayed at our church;
  • Refugees have been given about 1,500 snack bags for the road;
  • The refugees who found a shelter in our church have had their meals 3 times a day.

  • Before distributing food bags, we shared about Christ and supported people spiritually and emotionally.
Shelter

  • We have distributed 1,664 snack bags;
  • We have supported the refugees emotionally and spiritually / shared about Christ with them;
  • We have also distributed a lot of clothes / personal hygiene items / medicines.
These are the main costs for March (1 month)
  • UAH 35,000 for food for the refugees sheltered in the church;

  • UAH 63,000 for fuel for transporting the humanitarian aid in Kharkiv / Sumy / Kyiv / Poltava oblasts (regions);

  • Over UAH 100,000 for transporting the humanitarian aid from Western Ukraine to Poltava;

  • Utility costs – UAH 48,000;

  • Medicines - over UAH 75,000.
We did not mention all of the costs, because there were a lot of them.
We need at least

Every hryvnia / dollar / euro can save a life.
$50,000 a month
Why is it this sum of money?
More than 1 million refugees have already been evacuated through our city. We accept from 30 to 65 people in church every day. Also, these people need food / medicines / clothes / personal hygiene items/ and just support…
1.
More than 100,000 refugees settled in Poltava. Every week in our church we give away 500 food bags for refugees who remained in our city. We also tell these people about Christ.
2.
60-70% of the humanitarian aid that came to our church was delivered to the hotspots.
3.
Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs. The state support is not enough to take care of everyone.
4.
The flow of refugees to Poltava is still increasing. The enemy has been mercilessly bombing and attacking Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts (regions) which border with Poltava.
5.
Thousands of people need humanitarian aid in Poltava oblast (region).
6.
What else do we want to do?
  • Develop the youth ministry. The war forced young people to move to other cities, where they are left without support or communication. That's why our church wants to become a place where young people of Poltava will find friends and get acquainted with Jesus.

  • Our desire is to find financial support for the team that serves 24/7.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’… ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

Matthew 25: 35-40,45 (NIV)"
